Fears and phobias can have a debilitating effect on our lives, preventing us from doing what we want and living the life we want. Hypnotherapy can help us overcome these fears and phobias by working with our subconscious mind to change how we think about them.

Common phobias we offer assistance with:

There are many different types of phobias and fears that people suffer from. Some of the more common ones that we offer assistance with at our hypnotherapy clinic include:

  • Fear of flying – This common fear can be debilitating for some people. It can prevent them from going on holidays or taking flying trips. Hypnotherapy can help to ease this fear and make flying a more relaxed experience.
  • Fear of public speaking – Many people suffer from stage fright or performance anxiety when it comes to public speaking. This can make giving presentations, speeches or talks very difficult and stressful. Hypnotherapy can help you to overcome this fear and give you the confidence to speak in public without worry.
  • Fear of heights – Many people naturally fear heights, which can make things like climbing buildings or going up tall bridges very daunting. Hypnotherapy can help you face and conquer your fears, so you can enjoy activities that involve heights without any anxiety.

If you have any fear or phobia, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can help you to overcome your fears and live a happier, more confident life.

Physical symptoms of fears and phobias

Fear is a natural emotion that occurs in response to a perceived threat. It is characterized by physical and psychological symptoms that can vary in intensity depending on the individual. Physical symptoms of fear include increased heart rate, shallow breathing, sweating, and trembling.

Sometimes, people may also experience dissociation, feeling disconnected from their bodies or surroundings. Phobias are anxiety disorders characterized by intense fear or anxiety in response to a specific trigger (spiders, heights, or flying). People with phobias often go to great lengths to avoid their triggers and may experience significant distress when exposed to them.

Psychological symptoms of fears and phobias

Psychological symptoms of fear and phobias can include:

  • feeling anxious, scared or panicked
  • feeling like you’re in danger, even when there’s no real threat
  • heart palpitations or chest pain
  • sweating or shaking
  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • feeling dizzy or lightheaded
  • dry mouth
  • nausea or upset stomach
  • feeling unreal or detached from yourself
  • losing control

How Hypnotherapy can help fears and phobias

The goal of hypnotherapy for fear and phobias is to modify the underlying beliefs that are causing the fear or phobia. Targeting these beliefs can help reduce fear responses by replacing them with new, healthier ones. Hypnotherapy also helps by allowing people to gain insight into why they have certain fears and phobias, which can then be addressed on a deeper level than traditional therapy alone.

Additionally, hypnosis can help people visualize themselves in situations where they no longer feel anxious or fearful, thus helping them better cope with those situations when they arise.

Hypnotherapy also helps create positive associations with activities or objects that may normally trigger anxiety or fear responses. For example, if someone fears flying, a hypnotherapist may use imagery to help them associate flying with feelings of safety and security rather than panic and dread. This technique helps people identify triggers for their fears while replacing negative associations with positive ones.

How our sessions are structured for people with phobias

Most people who see me for hypnotherapy seek to conquer a fear or phobia. Instead, Valerie structures her sessions specifically for each client, but there are some common elements that she typically includes.

First, she will discuss the nature of your fear or phobia and any triggers you know. She will also talk about your goals for treatment and what you would like to achieve. She will then explain how hypnosis works and what you can expect during the session.

Next, Valerie will begin the hypnosis portion of the session. Then, she will guide you into a state of deep relaxation using techniques such as visualisation and breathing exercises. Once you are in a deep state of relaxation, she will begin working on addressing your fear or phobia. This may involve exploring the origins of your fear, reframing negative beliefs, and doing work to build up your confidence and self-esteem.

After the hypnosis portion of the session is complete, Valerie will spend some time discussing any homework assignments that may be helpful for you. These might include things like exposure therapy, journaling, or practising relaxation techniques daily. She will also provide resources you can use in between sessions if needed.
